Clock ticking on townsperson nominations

The final date for nominations for the 2010-2011 Wetherby Townsperson of the Year award is Friday, June 24.

Wetherby Lions, who organise the award, will be looking for the townsperson who has done that extra bit for the community or who has helped people within the community in a voluntary capacity. Following the deadline nominations will be scrutinised by a panel of distinguished Wetherby people led by the Lions’ President and including last years winner.

The result will be announced on the same day as another of the town’s great traditions, the Pram Race, to be held for the sixteenth successive year, this year on Sunday, July 3. As well as the race itself there will be entertainment, live music from local bands and a chance to support a range of local charities who will have stalls at the race finish at the Ings.

Trophies for the race will be awarded to the fastest team over the course, the best dressed team and the team who raises the most money. The pram race parade will start in the Wilderness car park at 11am and it is expected that the race will finish around noon at the Ings.

All of the proceeds from this years event will be donated to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Nominations for the Townsperson should include the name of the person you are nominating, address, telephone number and your name and address and telephone number. Forms are available from the Wetherby News office and the Town Library.
