Air cadets from Wetherby were rewarded for their efforts in helping a popular regional event run smoothly.

The 35 Squadron (Wetherby) was given £900 for helping to offload 1,000 bikes on their return from Filey following the 30th Annual Great Yorkshire Bike Ride from Wetherby.

Wetherby District Lions organise the start and finish areas and rely on volunteers such as the Air Cadets.

As they were one of the nominated charities to receive a donation, along with Martin House, the Lions decided to hand over cash to the cadets.

The bike ride was started in 1983 by John Taylorson MBE and attracts over 1800 riders.
