The traders have collaborated to line up a range of offers to attract shoppers to the south side of the town centre, including discounts, a raffle and even a live owl demonstration.

The initiative will follow hot on the heels of the Harrogate Christmas Market, which takes place on the Stray, just down the hill from West Park, from tonight (Thursday) till Sunday, November 20.

It has been coordinated by the West Park Hotel, with 12 other businesses on West Park, offering everything from inspiration for Christmas menus to party fashion and outdoor equipment.

West Park Hotel manager Nathan George said: “There are some really great businesses on West Park but we were all conscious that some shoppers head straight for the town centre and may miss out what we have to offer so we got together to work out how best to showcase the area.”

Offers on the night range from discounts of up to 25 per cent, vouchers in return for spending a set amount, product offers, tastings and demonstrations.

Weetons is offering mulled wine and Christmas canapés to shoppers, while the West Park itself is offering a 20 per cent discount on food and a free glass of fizz when dining.

The owl comes courtesy of Weetons, where one of the chefs breeds owls and is bringing a Siberian eagle owl along for the evening. Although it won’t be flying due to the location, it will be available for photos.

Mr George added: “We have been delighted by the way the businesses on West Park have worked together on this and hope that we can help everyone get into the Christmas spirit and show what the south side of town has to offer.”

Participating businesses include: Boho Chic (womenswear), Cook (handmade ready meals), Cotswold Outdoor, Georgie’s (womenswear), Lynx (clothing), Maplin (electricals), Weetons (food and café), Moda in Pelle (footwear), Oka (furniture), Orvis (countrywear), Specialized (bicycles), West Park Hotel and Whites (designer womenswear).
