A Tesco convenience store will open in Collingham by mid-summer, the Wetherby News can reveal.
The store will be recruiting for employees from April onwards, with building work at the site expected to begin next month.
The supermarket chain were given planning approval by Leeds City Council for a change-of-use to the former Old Star Inn site on Leeds Road last October.
A planning report- for a change of use to an existing building- has been recommended for two externally illuminated signs, three outdoor air-conditioning units and alterations to the front porch at the derelict site in the centre of the village.
In total 469 people objected to the store plans, while 40 were in support of the proposals.
Reasons from those who had objected to the site plan included an increase in traffic flow, lack of pedestrian access and the negative impact a store would have on surrounding village shops.
In light of local highways concerns, the supermarket agreed to move access to the store further back from the original junction and delivery vehicles would be brought to the rear of the building, rather than the front.
Tesco have also agreed to provide £25,000 towards a pedestrian crossing.
