Proud to mark 25 years

AN INDEPENDENT fuel distribution business is marking its 25th anniversary with a special gift to two local charities.

Kettlewell Fuels, of Melmerby, near Ripon, is donating £1 for every kerosene fuel delivery it makes over the next 12 months and dividing the total between The Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Martin House Hospice in Boston Spa.

The company, part of the Kettlewell Group which also includes Kettlewell Transport, was founded in 1987 and returned to the management of The Kettlewell family in 1996. The business has increased sales by more than 50 per cent in the last five years, making thousands of deliveries to customers including farms, homes, and businesses within a 30-mile radius. From a turnover of £1.8 million in 1996, last year the company had grown to £17 million.

Operations manager Janet Kettlewell said: “As one of the last remaining independent fuel delivery businesses in this area, we are very proud to be marking our 25th anniversary, particularly in the current tough economic climate.

“Because of this, we decided to mark our quarter century by doing something for our local community. We selected Martin House because it does marvellous work at costs of £12,000 a day, and The Yorkshire Air Ambulance because the region is fortunate to have a service of this kind.”

The company, run by Janet and her husband Trevor, a director of The Kettlewell Group, has a six-vehicle delivery fleet, including one articulated lorry, able to meet the demands of remote rural deliveries, and 11 staff including administrators and drivers.
