Mixed reaction to Tesco
COLLINGHAM residents have given a mixed reaction to plans for a Tesco Express at the former Old Star Inn site in the village, it has been revealed this week.
The consultation, which is ongoing, has seen a number of household leaflets delivered by Tesco, who say more than 400 local residents have taken part in the consultation so far.
The results show that 47 per cent are in support of a new store, with 46 per cent against and 7 per cent undecided.
Tesco Corporate Affairs Manager Deborah Hayeems said: “We have a lot to take on board and we will continue to develop our plans with these comments in mind.”
Meanwhile Collingham and Linton Parish Council have spoken of their disappointment at the news that only one brochure has been delivered per household.
In a statement to the Wetherby News, the Parish Council said: “Collingham with Linton Parish Council would have wished the consultation to be based upon individual responses and not a household response.
The Old Star pub on Leeds Road in Collingham closed its doors 18 months ago and has since stood empty.
