The annual Harrogate Hospitality and Tourism Awards were formally launched at Leeds Bradford International Airport this week.

With the Grand Départ of the Tour de France only six months away, Destination Harrogate, the association of the leading hotels of the town, which has organised the awards for the last five years decided to have an international flavour for the launch.

David Ritson, chairman of Destination Harrogate and awards organiser said: “The team at Leeds Bradford International Airport have supported the awards since they started and in a year where we expect many overseas visitors to come and visit the area for the Grand Départ in July it seemed appropriate to host the launch on the runway!

Tony Hallwood, aviation development and marketing director at the airport added: “We expect thousands of visitors to the area on and around the race dates of July 5 and 6 and we will need to sustain the high level of service our visitors expect. To do this we need the very best people providing their very best day in and day out. “

Simon Cotton, one of the organisers of the awards added: ”2014 is set to be an amazing year. We are sure Harrogate will rise to occasion and give the riders, the teams and the race organisers a Grand Départ to remember.
