A MEMBER of the House of Lords visited Boston Spa School last week as part of a scheme to encourage young people to get more involved in politics.

Earlier this month, pupils from year nine to 13 were visited by Lord Richard Best OBE, who was awarded his title and a place in the House of Lords for his work in promoting social housing projects.

Director of the Sixth Form, Phil Rumsey, said the visit had been a success.

He said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to interact with someone who knows the parliamentary system inside out, as it can sometimes seem far removed from their daily lives.”

The visit was arranged through the Lord Speaker’s ‘Peers in Schools’ programme, which sends members of the House of Lords into schools and colleges across the country to give talks in support of the citizenship curriculum.
