Launching this year’s Bramham Park Fun Run organisers have revealed last year’s event raised over £7,600 and £500 more than 2010.

Cancer Research UK organiser Ann Newton and event sponsor Andrew Beadnall of Wetherby Estate Agents Beadnall and Copley, said they were delighted and urged people to join the 2012 event.

“In this year of the London Olympics, we ask everyone to join in the spirit and do a 5km or 10km run.

“This is a great, healthy way to spend quality time with your family, friends and work colleagues and at the same time is an opportunity to help eradicate this evil disease, which, at some stage affects one in three of us.”

Over 450 entered last October’s Bramham Park Fun Run and together with the £4,200 raised from the Wetherby Cycle Ride, this has enabled the organisers to donate over £11,800 to Cancer Research UK.

Combined with other local fundraising events, over £20,000 has been collected to support the purchase of a specialised piece of research equipment known as a Fluidigm Biomark Real-time PCR system (total cost £80,000) for St James Hospital in Leeds to aid early detection of cancer.

Preparations are now well advanced for the 14th event, which will take place at Bramham Park on Sunday October 7 and will once more be sponsored by Beadnall Copley.

Due to the huge increase in numbers at the event, the organisers have arranged for personal trainer Martin Shaw, of Thorpe Park Hotel, Leeds, to ‘warm-up’ the competitors before the race begins.

Registration and sponsorship forms can be obtained by contacting Ann Newton on 01937 841470.
