The managing director of Harrogate PR agency Tinderbox Media has won a national and an international award for her blogging expertise.
In the past month, Karyn Fleeting has scooped both a Cosmopolitan Blog Award and a Plutus Blog Award for her personal finance blog Miss Thrifty (www.miss-thrifty.co.uk), which offers advice on saving money and living well for less. The blog launched in 2008 and has been featured by The Daily Telegraph, The Times, The Sunday Times, The Independent and the BBC World Service, among others.
The prestigious Cosmopolitan Blog Awards, hosted by the glossy magazine, aim to seek out “the best of the blogosphere”. Miss Thrifty was shortlisted by the judges from more than 160,000 nominations and, after readers were invited to vote for their favourites, was named Best Lifestyle Blog of 2011 at an awards ceremony in London.
Miss Thrifty also received international acclaim at the recent Financial Blogger Conference in Chicago, when it was named as the Best International Personal Finance Blog in America’s annual Plutus Awards. The Plutus Awards recognise the best financial products, services and blogs, and the win is the first time that a UK blog has scooped a prize.
Karyn said: “At Tinderbox Media - which specialises in online PR and business blogging - we make a point of practising what we preach, and all our team members are keen bloggers and online innovators.
“That said, I am thrilled to have won these two amazing awards, against stiff competition. Both awards were voted upon by the public and, from a PR and marketing perspective, this level of recognition serves to demonstrate the benefits of blogging.”
These latest accolades aren’t the first for Tinderbox Media’s director. A former journalist, Karyn won the Vogue Talent Contest in 2000 and the Sunday Telegraph-sponsored Catherine Pakenham Award for young journalists in 2003.
