A JUNIOR rugby league club can kick on after being awarded £500 by the BT Community Champions Award.
Sherburn Bears Under-8s will use the cash to buy new training equipment and to help coach development.
Club secretary Paul Dutson: “At the moment we have a lot of interest in the new Under-8s, but we are short of equipment.
“With the award we can now purchase the items needed for both training sessions and game days.
“However with the amount of interest shown from the local community, the club needs to expand its coaching staff with immediate affect, and the award can allow us to do this.
“This is an excellent opportunity to build an even closer community and develop the children taking part.”
Run by the BT Volunteering team, BT Community Champions awards BT people with funding on behalf of local community groups, charities and organizations where they work on a voluntary basis.
Rhys Hughes, a Customer Service Engineer for BT Openreach who applied for the award on behalf of the group, added: “We are always low on resources and funding is hard to come by.
“The BT Community Champions award scheme provides a great opportunity for community groups like ours – every contribution makes a difference.”
