Renewable energy company Clean Energy (Yorkshire) has secured a multi-million-pound deal to enable it to give landowners and farmers the chance to generate their own electricity.

The Harrogate-based firm has been funded by a private investor to purchase up to 36 six kw Kingspan wind turbines and install them on land free of charge - saving between £28,000 and £32,000.

Managing director Spencer Cassidy said: “Many famers and landowners would love to be able to take advantage of the environmental and financial benefits renewable energy installations can bring. However, the cost to buy and erect a wind turbine can put it beyond the reach of some.”

Mr Cassidy said not everyone who applied would be successful, as there were a number of conditions that had to be satisfied, inclduing securing the relevant planning permission.

Meanwhile, Clean Energy (Yorkshire) has been shortlisted in the Commercial Installer of the Year and the Commercial Renewable Project categories of the Renewables Awards 2012. Both nominations relate to a project to install 175 thin film panels to a curved roof in Knaresborough – a first for the renewable industry. Winners will be announced this evening.
