Brass band contest pulls in top in region

Have your say

Brass music fans were treated to an extravaganza of musical talent at the first Wetherby Brass Factor last Saturday which saw Wardle Academy Youth Band scoop the top prize.

They started the 2014 Brass Factor season by opening the show at the Engine Shed to a packed audience who had travelled across the country to hear some of the best brass musicians in the region.

Supported by Harrogate based CNG Ltd who sponsors for Brass Factor 2014, Wardle were chased hard by the Huddersfield Marathon Band who made part narrative, part musical story of their trials of achieving a Guinness World Record for the fastest brass band to run a marathon.

In the end the young band from Lancashire held off both the Huddersfield band and the Wetherby Silver Band to prove their mettle.

Wetherby Mayor Coun Harry Chapman praised Brass Factor and said: “Both the Mayoress and myself were very impressed by the whole evening.

“It was run with great professionalism and the bands, the musicians and their music just blew us away.”

The event raised £300 for Martin House.
