Action group's call: '˜help us fight floods'

The town has a chequered history of flood events with river flooding occurring in 2000 and 2015.

In the past four years, the town has experienced six surface water floods from peak rainfall, leading to water accumulation and causing properties to flood.

Tadcaster Flood Action Group, which has been established for more than four years, has developed skills to predict when risks are high, continually improved response tactics, maintaining communication and unity with the multi agencies and works alongside the emergency services on site.

Since Boxing Day, the group has received generous donations up to £51,000 from the Masons, Heineken Brewery and local businesses.

This funding has allowed the group to buy two towable Hilta C100 Flood Pumps from Morris Machinery, allowing fast deployment in the event of imminent risk.

The pumps are stored at either side of the river with an ability to move 60,000 gallons of water per hour to help alleviate the effects of surface water flooding in the town.

Along with the new pumps, the group has been donated personal protective equipment, HF radios and storage locations for the pumps.

The group is in the final process of producing flood prevention packs for businesses and residents who were affected by the floods and is in the process of organising a flood advice fair within the town in the near future.
