Wetherby race meeting abandoned

Wetherby Racecourse officials have this afternoon abandoned the Totepool Irish Day meeting planned for tomorrow because of frost.

A spokesman said today: “Having so far escaped the worst of the weather this week (we were raceable on Thursday 2nd February), we unfortunately encountered below freezing temperatures from 9pm onwards last night which fell to a low of -6.

“Despite being a clear, bright sunny day today, the temperature has not risen above 3 degrees, and we are still frozen.

“Given the clear skies and predicted overnight temperatures of a potential -7, we do not feel that we now have any chance of racing tomorrow and have therefore taken the decision to abandon.”

Anybody in possession of advance tickets can claim a full refund by writing to the racecourse office within 14 days of the date of the meeting.
