THE directors of Ripon International Festival are delighted to announce their success at achieving an Arts Council grant of £10,000 towards the 2012 15th anniversary programme of events.

The award enables them to maintain the highest level of artistic excellence for which the festival is renowned and which attracts visitors from all over the country.

With costs of more than £100,000, the festival must raise upwards of £50,000 every year from sponsors, grants and donations, the balance of the costs being met from ticket sales.

The festival launches its 2012 season with a Spring Gala Concert on Saturday, May 5 at Ripon Cathedral in which Northern Sinfonia will perform a programme featuring Mendelssohn’s Overture The Hebrides and Violin Concerto and Beethoven’s glorious Pastoral Symphony.

Under the festival’s artistic director, Janusz Piotrowicz, the orchestra will be joined by Alexandra Soumm, one of Europe’s finest young violinists

Alexandra has performed with l’Orchestre de Paris, the Israel Philharmonic, Zurich, Lausanne, Frankfurt and Gothenburg orchestras, and at major festivals such as the Verbier, Strasbourg and Montreux-Vevey.

Piotrowicz and Soumm should prove a potent combination in the much-loved Mendelssohn Violin Concerto and Piotrowicz brings his profound musicianship to the Hebrides Overture and Beethoven’s evocative Pastoral Symphony.

l Tickets are in great demand for this concert so book now at www.riponinternationalfestival.com or at Alan’s Gallery Ripon on 01765 603994 and also Harrogate Theatre on 01423 502116 or online at www.harrogatetheatre.co.uk
