One of the stars of a forthcoming show at Ripley Town Hall is to record a single with Sir Bradley Wiggins.

Newspaper reports at the weekend said that guitar legend Steve Cropper, who is to appear with The Animals for promoters RipleyBlues on February 8, will record with the music-loving Tour de France winner next month.

The track, Window Shopping, which will also feature former members of The Jam, Paul Weller and Bruce Foxton, first appeared on Foxton’s solo album last year which saw the former Jam colleagues make up after years of rancour.

Cropper is used to being part of supergroups. Following the demise of Booker T & The MGs, he formed The Blues Brothers with actors John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd for the blockbuster film of the same name.

In the 1960s, Cropper backed artists such as Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Carla Thomas, Rufus Thomas and Johnnie Taylor, also acting as producer on many of their records.

He will be performing many of his Stax soul classics with The Animals at Ripley Town Hall in a night packed with 60s hits.

2007 marked the 50th year of performing for The Animals’ founder member John Steel. Back in 1957 he and The Animals co-founder Eric Burdon began plying their trade in and around their native Tyneside with not the slightest inking that they would - in a very few years – find themselves part of a group that would be forever bracketed with the very best of British music – The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Yardbirds – and respected all over the world.

The Animals were also be the second British band after The Beatles to top the American charts with their multi-million selling anthem, House of The Rising Sun.

It’s a return gig for The Animals after a visit in 2007 recieved a rapturous welcome.

Looking ahead to another RipleyBlues presentation, on Saturdau, January 26 Australian guitar meastro Derrin Nauendorf will appear at Ripley Blues Club upstairs in Ripley Town Hall.
