IT’S been a while since Harewood House hosted modern pop and rock in one of the nicest outdoors settings in Britain.

I can’t think of anything relevant there since The Who and the Flaming Lips created a dream double bill for the short-lived annual Wireless Festival back in 2006 only for 02 to pull the plug on the north and retreat back south where it happily organises festivals to this day.

But northern store giant Morrisons is coming to the rescue with a two-day family festival this summer called MFEST - and got it’s a heck of a line-up.

MFEST will be held in the grounds of Harewood House on Saturday and Sunday, July 7-8.

Organisers promise a delicious mix of fantastic music, comedy, children’s entertainment and sport – all served up with a fresh food experience.

Classic acts such as Texas, The Human League, Bob Geldof, Paul Heaton, The Levellers, Beverley Knight, Heaven 17, Inspiral Carpets, Secret Affair, Glen Matlock, Soul II Soul and The Farm will share the stage with chart favourites Cher Lloyd, Matt Cardle and Scouting for Girls during the two day extravaganza.

The weekend event will also feature some new British breakthrough artists like The Low Suns, Clement Marfo and The Frontline, Missing Andy, Steve Appleton plus sports personalities and comedy acts.

The event has been set up partly to help Morrisons charity, Raise a Smile, reach a target of £500,000 for Save the Children.

With a capacity of 15,000 on each day, MFEST gates will open at 11am, with the first act taking to the stage at 1pm.

Acts already confirmed include:

Texas. The Human League, Bob Geldof, Matt Cardle, Beverley Knight, From the Jam, The Low Suns, The Blockheads, Cher Lloyd, Clement Marfo and the Frontline, Paul Heaton, Glen Matlock, Secret Affair, Missing Andy, The Levellers, Inspiral Carpets, Paul Heaton, Heaven 17, The Farm, Scouting For Girls, Soul II Soul.

Revellers will be treated to live demonstrations from leading UK chefs, such as Aldo Zilli, Nigel Haworth, Atul Kochhar, Pierre Koffmann and Bryn Williams and kids and adults can get involved themselves making tasty treats from scratch and gobbling their scrumptious creations in between special play and entertainment zones all catered specifically to each age group.

Young gardeners can get digging too, with Diarmuid Gavin holding green fingered events at the Morrison Let’s Grow Patch.

l Tickets for the event will be available from.themfest.com, ticketline.co.uk, or by calling 0844 888 9991.

Adult tickets will cost £49.50; 11-16 year olds will pay £25 and ten and under get in for free (one child under 10 free per paying adult).

A total of £5 from every ticket sale will go to Morrisons Raise a Smile charity for Save the Children.
