Giant piano on display at first concert

THE largest and most prestigious piano in the UK will feature in Harrogate Symphony Orchestra's first concert of the season tomorrow.

Talented local pianist, Julian Saphir from Harrogate will be playing on a nine-foot, three inch Shigeru Kawai piano, the only one of its kind in the UK. Kawai Pianos are sponsoring Julian, who will be playing the Prokofiev Piano Concert No 3, recently heard in the finals of the Leeds Piano Competition held last month.

The orchestra, conducted by Bryan Western, Head of Music at King James’s School in Knaresborough, will also play Dvorak’s Carnival Overture and Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony. The concert, which takes place at Harrogate Grammar School, starts at 7.30pm.

Tickets priced 8 for adults, 4 for children over 11 and free for under-11s, are on sale at The Bookshop, Knaresborough, ABC Music, Pomp and Circumstance and Music House in Harrogate.
