Eddi Reader, Royal Hall, Harrogate..

With just three guitars, well one was a ukulele, and an accordion the incredible Eddie Reader held an almost capacity crowd spell bound at Harrogate Royal Hall, writes STUART RHODES.

On a terrific night for music fans, she worked her way through a collection of Scottish folk songs, mainly based on poems by Robert Burns, new songs and a handful of classics from the days of Fairground Attraction.

Opening with the simple but beautiful songs Dragon Fly and Lazy Lyndsey it was time for the Fairground Attraction tracks The Moon is Mine and Patience of Angels, both performed superbly.

There could be no doubting the the quality of the four musicians on stage as amongst the witty banter from Ms Reader they each displayed their individual talents on tracks including Vagabond and New York City.

As the finale approaches it is time for the big hit and crowd pleaser from the Fairground Attraction era, Perfect.

To rapturous applause the band left the stage, to sum up there can be little doubt the evening was simply perfect.
