Harrogate’s Deanery Players are looking forward to launching the toe-tapping musical, 42nd Street, at Harrogate Theatre.

The successful Hollywood film, choreographed by Busby Berkley, cheered America during the dark days of the American Depression in 1933. Broadway discovered the show when it was re-written for the theatre in 1980.

The show opened at Drury Lane in 1986 when Catherine Zeta Jones and Paul Nicholas played the leading roles.

In the Deanery Players’ production, which runs from February 7-9, Mark Hall plays Broadway producer Julian Marsh and is fortunate to have two leading ladies - Sam Prince who plays Dorothy Brock, a fading musical comedy star, and Helena Knight is Peggy Sawyer the young girl who dreams of stardom.

A sparkling musical score with lots of toe-tapping dancers who perform ten production numbers, including Lullaby of Broadway, catches the mood of the American theatre.

Tickets for 42nd Street are now on sale at Harrogate Theatre Box Office on 01423 502216 or book online at www.harrogatetheatre.co.uk
