Big band in the mood for return

An appreciative audience was certainly put in the mood as Tadcaster Grammar School’s Big Band returned to St Mary’s Church in Tadcaster.

Leader Gillian Hainsworth welcomed all, including special guests Deputy Mayor of Tadcaster Steve Cobb and Councillor Richard Sweeting.

The 25-piece band entertained with a varied programme including In The Mood, Little Brown Jug and Tuxedo Junction, while regular soloists Rosie Winter and Imogen Fuller gave their renditions of Blue Moon and Moon River respectively.

Rev Canon Sue Sheriff paid tribute to the Big Band, congratulating them on maintaining their high standards even when students had moved on to further education or employment.

“It is absolutely brilliant how you can maintain the quality from year to year and you must put in hours of practice,” she said.

“I really appreciate you giving up your time and am very excited to see all your family, friends and members of Tadcaster council who have come to support you,” she added.

“Thank you for all you have done in raising more than £230 profit which will be divided between Christian Aid and the Big Band.”

The Big Band next perform at St Mary’s Church in Garforth on Friday March 16 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 for adults, £3 for children and £12 for a family of four from 01937 833466 or on the door.
