This Saturday will divide communities, friends, even families, right across the country.

That’s because the Premiership football season kicks off, which for many people will herald the prospect of long, dark nights listening to a loved one rattle on about 4-2-4 formetions and the fallibility of goal-line technology.

For the thousands – or is it millions? – who love the “beautiful game”, though, it means that life begins anew and weekends are exciting again.

In fact, the hell/heaven has already begun for many, since the lower leagues started their seasons last weekend.

With a bit of money, football can become more than just a way of life – there’s nothing like living near your home football ground for putting the game front and centre in your life. You could, for example, buy a one-bed flat in Chelsea Village, in the Chelsea Football Club complex – for a whopping £575,000.

Or you could do what ex- Man United star Gary Neville wants to do with his new Old Trafford hotel, and create a football pitch on the roof. Talk about football coming home!

In our area, we can’t quite manage that (fever) pitch of sporting glamour, but buying one of the following four properties could be the ideal way for a supporter of one of the area’s four top-performing clubs to ensure they don’t have to walk too far on match-day.

The area’s highest-flying club is Harrogate Town, who play in the Conference North (tier 6 of the English football league system). Just round the corner from their home, the CNG Stadium, is a duplex flat on Lancaster Park Road (bottom pic).

Occupying the upper two floors, it has three double bedrooms and a potentially convertible loft. It also has a garden and off-street parking space.

In Starbeck, 28 Olive Grove (top pic) is just a short walk away from Station View, the home ground of Harrogate Railway Athletic, who play in the Northern Premier League Division One North (tier 8).

The mid-terrace house has three bedrooms and a fully-floored roof space with skylight and eaves storage, accessed by pull-down ladders. It has two off-street parking spaces, and a good-sized garden with garden shed.

Like the Lancaster Park Road property, 38 High Street in Tadcaster (middle pic) is a maisonette occupying the upper two floors of the building.

It has been recently modernised to provide two-bedroom accommodation, and includes a ground-floor 898 sq ft retail unit with planning permission for change of use to suit most kinds of business.

The property is just round the corner from 2inspire Park, home ground of Tadcaster Albion, who play in the Premier Division of the Northern Counties East League (tier 9).

One tier down in the same league are Knaresborough Town, and just a free-kick away from their Manse Lane ground is 15 Crestholme Close (main pic, above).

This spacious detached house has four bedrooms, three reception rooms, a conservatory and patio doors to the back garden, whose lawn and high hedges make it ideal for a quick game of footie with the kids.
