MAY I add some facts about the proposed development on Church Fields, Boston Spa. The National Office of Statistics stated (28/4/04) that there were 1,789 dwellings in the Parish and 2,309 vehicles.

Those of an arithmetical bent will soon work out that 170 new houses represent an increase of 9.5 per cent. An estimate of 1.5 vehicles per new house would produce an increase of 255 or 11 per cent.

The recent changes to the Wattle Syke roundabout have already caused increased congestion and delay at peak times so can readers imagine the rise in traffic?

It would be safe to presume that the wage earners of the proposed development would have to commute either towards the roundabout or towards Tadcaster, plus the extra transits for shopping trips, school runs etc.

I trust these items will add to the debate and remind readers that the closing date for comments/objections is Wednesday.
