THE COST of bus travel is set to spike following the announcement of a 10 per cent rise in ticket prices.
Transdev Harrogate & District announced on Friday they will raise the cost of travel from May 18, citing increased fuel prices as the root cause of the change.

Managing director Dave Alexander said: "During the last twelve months we have experienced an unprecedented increase in the cost of diesel fuel, costs to our business are currently 50 per cent higher than they were 12 months ago and there is currently no sign that they will reduce or even stabilise in the short to medium term.

"We have waited for as long as we could before taking this decision and, regrettably, fares will increase by an average of 10% from 18 May."

A rise in ticket prices was due at the end of the summer but they have been forced to bring this forward to offset the increased costs.
Not all types of tickets will be affected, and the change for period tickets is said to be minimal.
