Police move travellers in Pannal
TRAVELLERS who arrived in Pannal earlier this week have already moved on thanks to swift action from police.
A number of caravans arrived in the car park at the train station on Tuesday leading concerned residents to contact local councillors Mike Gardner and Fred Willis.
Nearby businesses said members of British Transport Police arrived promptly and gave the travellers until 3pm yesterday to leave the car park.
Speaking yesterday, Andrew Sumner, a technician at Pannal Motor Centre, said: "We came this morning and they had gone."
Another Pannal resident, who did not want to be named, said people had been concerned by the presence of the travellers around the village. But surrounding businesses and residents reported there had been no trouble other than much-needed parking being taken up by the caravans.
Coun Gardner welcomed the swift action and said: "It's good news for all concerned. It's always full with commuters wanting to park and it would have quite an effect."
