COUNCIL workers across the district today take part in the second day of a nationwide strike over pay.
Council workers across England, Wales and Northern Ireland voted in favour of industrial action after rejecting a 2.45 per cent pay offer.

They are demanding a 6 per cent pay rise or an extra £600 a year, whichever is greater.

Around 600 of the council's 1,800-strong workforce are members of the trade union UNISON and, although it is not yet known how many of these staff will be on strike, Harrogate Council confirmed the main switchboard and planning enquiries office are closed, along with all administration buildings and Harrogate International Centre's Box Office.

No cremations or burials will take place, and leisure facilities will open only if the staffing numbers meet the minimum required.

A council spokeswoman said refuse and recycling services shouldn't be affected, and she said some direct lines into the revenues and benefits office will be open.

Residents are reminded that the council operates services on line and are advised to visit the council's website www.harrogate.gov.uk.
