A NEW book by well-known local historian and Freeman of Knaresborough, Arnold Kellett, entitled Blind Jack of Knaresborough (1717-1810), is to be launched by the Rt Hon David Blunkett, MP, at the Knaresborough Bookshop on the High street, on Friday, August 1, Yorkshire Day.
Following the launch at 11.30am, David Blunkett, who has written the foreword to the book, will be available over the lunch hour to sign copies, as will Dr Kellett.

There have been many reprints of Blind Jack's memoirs of his life as spa and military musician, drinker, gambler, huntsman, lover, long-distance walker, trader, smuggler, and renowned builder of roads and bridges - but this is the first actual biography to evaluate his story, providing a carefully-researched historical background, with interesting notes and illustrations.

Additional artwork is by Peter Kearney, and the cover shows a fine oil-colour of Blind Jack, specially painted, at the author's request, by the prestigious Knaresborough-bom artist, Barrington Bramley.

Priced at £9.99, Blind Jack of Knaresborough (1717-1810), is intended to provide the town with an entertaining and authoritative account of its most famous son.

Further details can be obtained from the owner of the Knaresborough Bookshop, Paul Chrystal on 01423 864276.
