Wetherby and District Camera Club
THE 2007-2008 season has now ended and a most successful one it has been. The final three weeks of the season were very busy and marked the culmination of the season's activities.

On March 25, in a new venture for the club, we were delighted to en
tertain a good number of members from the Garforth and Knaresborough clubs for a three way slide battle. At heart this is a fun, slide matching contest which was ably judged by a former members, Terry Burns. At times, however, the competition becomes quite intense and noisy with vocal comments about aspects of the judge's decisions. As each club's selection of slides diminish, the matches become more and more imaginative, not to say fanciful! After a close fought but highly entertaining contest Garforth were declared the winners with Wetherby second, and Kanresborough third. Our visitors appeared to have thoroughly enjoyed themselves and warmly thanked the club for its hospitality.

The Annual Awards Evening on April 1 took a somewhat different format this year especially as it was held in the normal meeting room rather than at an outside venue. Before the break, Gordon Quinn had organised a "baby" quiz where those present attempted to identify members photographed as very young children - in some cases this was some time ago! The competition elicited much discussion but, in the end, was won by the youngest member present. After food and drinks, the awards were presented and details of these are available on the web site. Two members, John Chapman and Stuart Whitfield, have been especially successful this year.

The Annual General Meeting was held on April 8 with Robin Jarratt confirmed as chairman for next season and Brian Gray as secretary. Other committee members remain as for last year but we welcome two new members to our committee, John Elvin and Jane Hartharn.

A notable feature of the end of the season has been the offer of generous sponsorship by the Wetherby branch of Specsavers' Opticians. Their financial support will enable us to offer a prestige lecture in 2009 and also allow us to purchase some new awards for the digital image competitions recently introduced in to our programme. The club is most grateful to Specsavers for this welcome support.

The club meets each Tuesday at 7.30 pm in the St James' Church rooms and further details of the club are to be found on the club's website at www.wetherbycameraclub.co.uk . The web site is about to undergo a major overhaul and the new format site should be published by the end of April. It will contain more images, and more information in a, hopefully, more attractive and usable way.

The new season begins on Tuesday September 2 and new members will be most welcome at this meeting. Potential new members will find contact details on our web site but any queries can be emailed to the secretary Brian Gray, at secretary@wetherbycameraclub.co.uk or to the publicity officer, Adrian White, at webmaster@wetherbycameraclub.co.uk .
