Yorkshire Day celebration event success

From: Dorothy and Jim Hill, Fairfax Crescent, Tockwith.

AUGUST 1 heralded torrential rain but in spite of the downpours outside there was a sunny atmosphere on the inside, as the community of Wetherby celebrated with a Yorkshire Day party.

St Joseph’s Church hall was packed to capacity as everyone enjoyed an afternoon of fun and fine fayre.

Everyone was served a delicious afternoon tea of homemade cakes and scones and browsed the stall of home produce manned as usual by Wetherby stalwarts Audrey and Elaine selling an assortment of baking, jams and gifts.

The Tadcaster Chorale gave a wonderful musical concert of our favourite things old and new with a lighthearted touch of humour with a Yorkshire singalong including a monologue from Jack of ‘Yorkshire Puddin’ fame, along with some excellent solos.

As ever there was a tireless team behind the scenes, special thanks to Sue, Pauline and Louisa who all worked very hard. Sincere thanks to all those helpers who contributed in any way to make the day a wonderful success. Particularly Ian and Lesley who supplied the sound system, and to all the sponsors and bakeries who supplied the delicious goodies.

The amazing profit on the day was in excess of 1,100 a splendid effort and this will go to help our friends in Katangi.
