Why should we ban people from park?

From: V Cale, York Place, Wetherby.

I HAVE not written into this paper before however I feel compelled to email you in response to various letters and comments about Sandringham Park.

I am a local resident living on York Place, I have two children and I am thoroughly grateful for the new park. My children enjoy playing there and they have not had any trouble from anybody. Whenever I have been at the park there is very minimal rubbish and I have not seen any glass. I was at the park the other day and there were three teenagers sat on the slide, they were using bad language so I politely asked them to watch what they were saying as I was with young children, they immediately appologised and spoke to each other quietly.

I was also walking past the park early evening on Saturday when I saw a group of teenagers being told to leave the park as they were “too old”. Since when have benches in an empty park had an age restriction? The boys were not doing any harm and where else can they go? The community police were walking past and they said no-one had any right to move the boys on simply because they were loud, surely simply talking to the boys as people and asking them to keep the noise down would have been enough.

I know we have some loutish teenagers in Wetherby but gladly they are in a minority. I have a number of friends locally with teenagers and although they give a little back chat on the whole they are genuinely nice humanbeings. Simply treating the generation with respect would earn their respect in return.
