Wetherby needs a bypass to help town
From: Neville Bentley, Langdale Close, Wetherby.
IMPROVEMENTS to the motorway system around Wetherby has without doubt increased the traffic though the town and contributed to the gradual decline of the attractiveness of the town centre.
Any resident of Wetherby will know that the town needs a bypass to take traffic directly to the A1. Regrettably being on the borders of West and North Yorkshire it would need the co-operation of two councils to bring this to fruition. Getting a bypass out of one council would be difficult enough.
I appreciate the inconvenience to Wetherby residents of delays in Westgate, but I contend that the situation would be far worse if the traffic was free flowing. I will not be alone in relying heavily on the gaps in the traffic caused by the Westgate congestion to allow me to get out onto Spofforth Hill or to turn right at the end of Crossley Street.
Without this disruption to the free flow, it would be impossible at certain times to get across the Harrogate traffic tidal flow, particularly now that the planned roundabout at the bottom of Spofforth Hill has been abandoned.
If, as has been the case recently, there is a particular obstruction, then I believe the police already have powers to remove it without the assistance of yellow lines. No yellow lines please! What we need is a bypass .
